Partners in Policymaking has a new website: http://www.partnersinpolicymaking.com
They are offering three new E-Classes: "Partners in Education", "Making Your Case", and "Partners in Employment". Check them out! Partners in Policymaking
Maryland Partners in Policymaking is a series of intensive leadership seminars created to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and parents of children with developmental disabilities in learning about state-of-the-art resources in special education, best practices in fostering the independence of children and adults with developmental disabilities, community inclusion, state and federal legislation, and community organizing. More than this, Partners in Policymaking will help you get involved and become a leader in the disability advocacy movement, joining others who are working to improve the lives of people with disabilities. The seminars are offered free of charge; with some funds available for personal assistant services, childcare, transportation, and other aids or services to allow you to attend. Leadership Training
The Partners in Policymaking vision is to recruit participants who come from every part of Maryland and who represent many different types of developmental disabilities. We look for individuals and parents who have not held a leadership position in any support group or disability organization. We encourage applications from young adults with disabilities who have been involved in self-advocacy or are interested in becoming leaders in the disability movement. All applicants must be able to make the commitment to attend every Partner's session, with the exception being an unforeseen emergency situation. Further, applicants should be interested in disability advocacy from a system-wide perspective-have a desire to improve live for all persons with disabilities. From our applicant pool, 30 individuals are chosen to participate and become leaders in the disability advocacy community. Fathers, members of minority groups, residents of the inner city and the far reaches of the state (western and southern MD and the Eastern Shore) are especially encouraged to apply. We believe that we are stronger when many different backgrounds and perspectives are represented! What Partners Graduates are saying:
"I have met others who feel the same way and found concrete ways to make a difference…both for my child and for other people with disabilities." -Baltimore Mother "It was worth the big commitment. Partners provides truly relevant information which I have been able to use on a practical level." -Frederick County Father "Through Partners I have found my voice" -Howard County Self-advocate Partners In Policymaking
